Instagram is exploring two additional ways to verify a person’s age, in addition to having them upload their ID:
- Video Selfie: You may prove your age by uploading a video selfie. If you select this option, instructions will appear on your screen to help you. We only share the image with Yoti after you create a video selfie. Yoti’s technology calculates your age based on your face traits and sends it to us. Meta and Yoti then delete the picture. Only your age can be recognized by technology.
- Social Vouching: With this option, you may ask mutual followers to authenticate your age. The individual vouching must be at least 18 years old, cannot be vouching for anybody else at the moment, and must fulfill all other requirements. The three persons you choose to vouch for you will be asked to validate your age and must answer within three days.
Instagram will still enable you to post your ID to verify your age, such as a driver’s license or ID card. We will verify your age using your ID to keep our community secure. Your ID is safely saved on our systems and is destroyed after 30 days.
