Apple intends to improve its display technology as early as 2024. According to analyst Ross Young’s latest analysis, it’s “looking more plausible” that Apple will debut an OLED-display MacBook in 2024. In addition, the business is working on iPad Pro variants with OLED panels.

According to Ross Young, this OLED MacBook will be a MacBook Air, although that might change as we get closer to 2024:

It is looking increasingly likely that Apple will launch a 13.3″ OLED notebook in 2024 in addition to the 11″ OLED and 12.9″ iPad Pros. It is expected to be a MacBook Air, but could potentially become a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or a new category.

According to the analyst, the OLED iPad Pro and MacBook Air will feature “tandem stack” display technology, which will boost brightness, improve display longevity, and cut battery usage by roughly 30%. Apple’s OLED screens are anticipated to include variable refresh rate displays to boost efficiency even further.

Apple’s current mini-LED technology is a viable alternative to OLED. In some aspects, it is better, but in others, it is worse. Thousands of microscopic LEDs are grouped in numerous dimming zones in mini-LED displays. Although mini-LED displays may achieve better brightness than OLED panels, the local dimming is not as precise. Burn-in is also a problem with OLED screens.

Apple is also putting a lot of money on micro-LED technologies in the future. This would bring the finest of both mini-LED and OLED panels together. Micro-LED displays are similar to OLED displays, however, they have higher brightness and no burn-in.
